Using Chef Buddy in Claude or ChatGPT

You can connect Chef Buddy to Claude or ChatGPT so the assistant can work with the same account you use in the app. See how to connect.

What the connection can do

• Read the recipes you can open (your own, ones shared with your household, and published public recipes), your favorites, your household (its name, members' first names and roles, and food preferences, including allergens), and your household's meal plan.
• Save a new recipe you worked out with the assistant, shared with your household. It never edits or replaces an existing recipe.
• Import a recipe from a web page link. As with links you import in the app, an imported recipe can become a public Chef Buddy recipe after review.
• Add meals to empty slots in your household's meal plan. Meals that are already planned are never replaced or removed.
• Build a grocery list from a set of recipes, shown in the chat only, or for a range of dates in your meal plan. A date-range list rebuilds your household's saved grocery list for those dates, the same as refreshing it in the app: items for meals no longer planned are removed, quantities are recalculated, and checked-off items stay checked. An item you added by hand that has the same name as a recipe ingredient takes the recipe's quantity.

It can't delete recipes, remove planned meals, change household members, or change your account settings.

Usage limits

• Recipe imports: up to 10 a minute, counted together with imports you start in the app.
• Recipe imports through an assistant: a daily allowance of about 20 to 40 imports (a page without a structured recipe uses more of it), which resets at 00:00 UTC.
• Grocery lists: up to 10 a minute, counted together with lists you build in the app.
• Meal plan updates: up to 120 a minute, counted together with changes you make in the app. Each request to add meals counts once.

When you reach a limit, the assistant is told when you can try again.

Disconnecting

Remove Chef Buddy in Claude under Settings → Connectors, or in ChatGPT under Settings → Apps. Disconnecting doesn't delete anything in your Chef Buddy account. To end an assistant's access on our side as well, revoke it under Account → Connected assistants.

Troubleshooting

• If the assistant says Chef Buddy couldn't confirm who you are, or asks you to sign in again, reconnect Chef Buddy from the same settings page and sign in.
• “Wasn't found in Chef Buddy, or it isn't shared with you” means the recipe was deleted, or it belongs to someone who hasn't shared it with you or your household.
• “This needs a household in Chef Buddy” means meal plans and saved grocery lists belong to a household: create or join one in the app, then try again.
• For anything else, email support@thechefbuddy.com with which assistant you use and roughly when it happened.
